About Joe Day
Joe had planned to attend the University of Pittsburgh after his senior year of high school but due to a family tragedy had to put off college for a few years. He worked as a restaurant manager to help rebuild his family home after a fire destroyed everything. In 2003 Joe re-applied to Pitt and became very involved in student activities such as Student Government, serving as SGA President and the Pitt Dems. Joe also was employed as a Resident Advisor on campus. He graduated with honors from Pitt in 2007 while working as a full-time staffer to Pittsburgh City Councilman Jim Motznik.
In the Spring of 2008 Joe began his graduate work at Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College of Public Policy. During the 2008 PA College Democrats Annual Convention Joe was elected unanimously as Financial Director. During his year in that position he raised over $20,000 for the PACD, which went toward the CDA and DNC convention trips and the 2009 PACD Convention. During the 2009 PA Municipal Elections Joe served as campaign manager for Motznik’s successful Magisterial District Judge campaign. Joe currently serves as the PACD Western Vice-President and in his short tenure has doubled the amount of College Dems chapters in that region. At the 2009 College Democrats of American National Convention, Joe was unanimously elected to the position of Development Director. ![]() |

The Joe I Know |
Joe Day was born in Danville, Pennsylvania, a small town in the center of the state. He was the only child in a single parent family. Raised by just his Mom while she was putting herself through Nursing School and working three jobs, Joe, at a young age, learned the importance of hard work.
Councilman Motznik appointed Joe his Chief of Staff in early 2008. During that same time Joe was asked to serve as Motznik’s campaign treasurer, responsible for his fund raising efforts. Joe is responsible for quadrupling Motznik’s campaign war-chest in one years time.
